We purchased N3714Y for the first time
in 1999 from the second owner here in the Denver area. She had spent
the early years of her life as a traffic watch plane in the area with a
local radio station. Other than a gear-up landing in 1964, the first
years were uneventful. The aircraft had minor repairs (no wing or tail
damage), repaired with factory new parts, completed in a
professional manner and documented fully.
The second owner was a Denver businessman who used the plane for
personal and business travel. He purchased this Centurion in
1969, and owned her for 30 years! In 1995, this owner put into the
panel a stack of new
King radios and a new Garmin GPS in the panel.
We sold N3714Y to a
physician in the Cincinatti area who used the plane for business and
personal transportation. Many improvements were made by this owner at
the time of purchase. First, we did a standard T panel conversion with
new modern-style gyros, and a first class new S-Tec 50 autopilot
installation. An Insight 602 Graphic Engine Monitor was installed to
keep an eye on the engine. A four-place intercom system was installed.
New paint and interior was then done, including a stainless cowling
hardware kit.
Recently, the owner had very little time available to stay current or
travel due to family and business demands, and we brought N3714Y back
home to the Denver area in December.
The predominantly Denver-based history of this 1963 210 has left her
very corrosion free compared to the rest of the fleet from this
era. The extensive upgrades make for a very pleasant IFR cross
country machine.
The IO-470 powered 210's are a very economical plane in the true
four-seat retractable class. This model has the improved gear and
fuel system - two items which plagued the very early 210 models; yet
the C-model retains the economical Continental IO-470 series
engine. The IO-470 series, despite its lower 1500 hour
recommended TBO, routinely outlasts the IO-520 series, and does so
without the troubling history of case/cylinder issues and crankshaft
A.D.'s . Also adding to the economic favorability of the C model
is the four seat capacity, which translates to cheaper insurance rates
than it's kiddie seat equipped bretheren.
Recommended book cruise speed for this plane is 160 knots. At
economy cruise, the 80 gallon tanks yield a 6 hour endurance.
The engine has been removed for major overhaul, having provided great
service for over 1500 hours and 30+ years; yet another testament to the
reliability, durability, and economy of the IO-470 series Continental
engine. I very rarely see this favorable level of service experience
with the IO-520 series engine.
N3714Y is now based in
Boulder Colorado, for sale by the owner, and can be viewed by
appointment.
